About Madre Brava

Madre Brava is a boutique, global organization dedicated to creating brave, science-based strategies and campaigns to achieve 100% sustainable, healthy, affordable food for all. Madre Brava is a fully remote organization with staff spread across three different regions (Americas, Europe and Asia).

We envision a future in which companies, governments, and financiers support food that is healthy for humans, animals, and the planet. This includes addressing the outsized role of livestock production in global emissions and supporting the transition to more sustainable proteins.

We are currently hiring for:

Media/PR consultant Germany (part-time, freelance, project-based)

Term: Part-time, freelance

Start date: Immediate

End date: Open

Location: Remote in Germany, ideally in Berlin

Budget range: payment at the completion of tasks/projects amounting to a total of 15,000-30,000 EUR

The job

Madre Brava is looking for a Media Consultant who embodies our ethos of bravery and courage, with a knack for disrupting communication, to join us on a part-time basis around key communications projects. This role aims to increase our presence in the German media landscape and requires a master storyteller, someone who can weave our science-based research and campaigns into compelling narratives that engage the German media landscape and inspire action in the private sector. As a freelance consultant working on a project basis, you will play a crucial role in highlighting our upcoming initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

Create content: Produce outstanding articles, press releases, LinkedIn posts and OpEds that resonate with our target audience and place Madre Brava at the forefront of the food-climate nexus conversation in the German media. Your writing will not only showcase our initiatives, but also galvanise public and corporate support for a sustainable food future.

Media Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with German media to secure coverage of Madre Brava's activities and campaigns in top-tier mainstream press and trade publications. Actively pitch stories and manage media enquiries to ensure our message is heard.

Digital engagement: Use digital platforms (primarily LinkedIn) to amplify our message and ensure Madre Brava's voice is heard far and wide, sparking conversations and inspiring action towards sustainable food systems. Create posts based on Madre Brava’s staff input.

Strategic communications support: You will play a key role in the following upcoming projects:

May 24:

Communicate our findings and insights on supermarket protein transition plans in Europe.

Jun/Jul 24:

Lead the media strategy and outreach to communicate our findings on the cost-effectiveness of different mitigation strategies for food retailers.

Sep/Oct 24:

Supporting a social media campaign to promote dietary change among young people.

Feb/Mar 25:

Create the media strategy, draft comms materials, and launch the coalition report, which ranks supermarkets on their sustainability efforts.

Who you are:

- Proven experience as a PR consultant, journalist or similar role

- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce compelling content on complex issues.

- A deep understanding of the media landscape in Germany, and established media contacts.

- You will share our commitment to changing food systems for the better. Ideally, you will have some knowledge of AgFood, climate change and sustainability - and a passion for advocacy.

- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage projects from conception to completion.

- Fluent in German and English, with exceptional communication skills.

- Location: ideally based in Berlin. You will work with a small remote team based in Brussels, Berlin and London.
